3 Easy Ways to be More "Green"

Posted by Emma B on

At Bodhi, we believe in the importance of sustainability. We are committed to providing on-trend pieces for active gals who love the ocean as much as we do.

Growing up in a small town on the ocean, I’ve always loved surfing, swimming, and yoga. But these outlets for exercise and relaxation aren't possible without the ecosystems in our oceans. We rely on our oceans for the clean air we breath and the delicious food we enjoy.

It's all on all of us to protect and preserve our oceans for future generations. So here are 3 simple ways for you to live a more "green" life.

1. Reduce, reuse, recycle. I'm sure you've heard this before but a great way to live this motto daily is by eliminating single use plastic from your life. Carry a reusable water bottle, bring your own bags to the grocery store, and opt for a mug to enjoy your coffee in - rather than a to-go cup. Eating your take out at home? Ask the restaurant to refrain from adding plastic utensils and paper napkins to your order!

2. Cut down on your energy at home! This is not only better for the environment but also save you some serious $$$. You can lower your thermostat in the winter and raise it in the summer. I suggest investing in a smart thermostat. Mine has an app that senses when I'm away from the house so it adjusts accordingly. It also allow me to keep everything on a timer - it's perfect! You can also unplug appliances when you aren't using them. And opt for hanging your clothes to dry instead of the dryer -- it's better for your wallet, the environment, and will make your clothes last longer!

3. Eat meat less -- I'm not saying you have to be a full blown vegetarian because I'm not but I am conscious of how much meat I buy and consume. More than 30% of the Earth's surface is used to support and raise livestock, which contributes to high levels of greenhouse gases. Water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone are examples of greenhouse gases that absorb and emit radiant energy. So opt for a veggie burger or skip the chicken in that pasta dish! Our ecosystem will thank you!

These are 3 simple changes you can make to your daily lifestyle to make a serious difference!
